A collection of darkly humorous stories and columns. In “The Twilight of the Clowns” a traditional way of life ends as clowning ceases to be a viable way of life; In “Everybody Loves a Little Elf” elves save a man’s business but they create a literal stink about property rights and slave labor; In “More than One Day in the Life of Igor Igoravitch” a KGB agent is caught up in a web of intrigue that is his own creation; Australians move to take over the world with their national food, the hot dog; The web of lies in Charlotte's Web is exposed; and the price of the simulacra in the window is finally laid bare.
David Raffin is a Metaphysicist, Writer, & Performer. His work has been featured in the national newspaper Funny Times, Rosebud magazine, and praised by MaximumRock'n'Roll, among others.

The short stories and thoughts in "Rhyme or Treason" are like a maze. The paths will you lead you through time, philosophies, Jack in the Box, politics, the constitution, the seven dwarves hut, religion and your job resume. One must keep reading no matter how much the mounting absurdness, no matter if you run out of tissue because you can't decide if you want to cry, laugh, (or shoot yourself)... so your nose leaks in indecision. At the heart of the maze you'll find a piece of yourself you didn't know had been missing. You'll find yourself more compassionate, yet skeptical towards fellow man. I would suggest the print version of this book because it's one you'll want to earmark, highlight and come back to, whether for serious thought or a good laugh.Product details

Hard Fought Illusions of Choice Rhyme or Treason edition by David Raffin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Raffin has some kind of clown-thing going, and that works for me because after attending my 40th birthday he wrote a piece that was included in this book. It begins
"I am not one of those people who will use the tired phrase, 'Some of my best friends are clowns.'
I do not know Justin well. All I know is that he is old."
He goes on to mention my clown character, Jusby the Clown, thereby giving me a degree of immortality I had not suspected would arrive so soon.
The rest of the book is funny too. There are TWO stories about clowns, and that's important because it is an at-risk profession, and every positive depiction helps keep the craft viable for future generations. Oh, wait, Raffin shows clowns as bank robbers, murderers, and eventually cruelly disposed of at rest home raffles. Well, immortality has its downside I suppose.
